RYA Day Skipper Shore-based course

 

This is a 5 day classroom based course designed to give those who are new to yachting, both power and sail, a basic knowledge of:

 

• Coastal navigation
• Pilotage
• Chart-work
• Position fixing
• Electronic navigation
• Weather forecasting and meteorology
• Tides
• International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea

 

This course gives you enough knowledge to navigate around familiar waters by day.  A basic knowledge of lights is included in case you arrive back in darkness.

 

Several hours homework will be required each evening, in addition to the class-work during the day.

 

The RYA student’s pack, supplied free with the course, comprises the course workbook, assessment papers, electronic chart plotting CD and practice charts.

 

Available on loan for the course are chart plotter, dividers, training almanac and chart symbols and abbreviations.

This course takes place over a total of 5 days, which may be run consecutively or over any period of time you prefer.
