Short range radio course
The Short Range Certificate (SRC) is the radio operator qualification that authorises the holder to operate a VHF Radiotelephone, fitted with Digital Selective Calling (DSC), onboard any British vessel that is voluntary fitted with radio equipment.
If you use a marine VHF radio you are required by law to hold an operator’s certificate.
If you hold an ‘old’ VHF certificate and wish to use a new DSC radio, you need to upgrade your certificate.
Please bring a ‘passport type’ photograph . Also bring your old certificate if you are upgrading.
This one-day course and assessment covers all you need to know and is followed by a question paper at the end of the day. You will use computer simulation and ‘real’ Icom DSC radios.
A knowledge of the international phonetic alphabet is required and you can download a copy from this web site.
